Find Your Next Bookish Haven: 5 Best Spots To Read in Las Vegas
You don’t have to spend a fortune to pore peacefully over a book in a bustling city.

The city of Las Vegas and a compelling page-turner have at least three things in common: interesting characters, an immersive setting, and, on most days, an unpredictable plot.
If you’ve ever ventured past the Strip, you will quickly see Las Vegas has multitudes, contrary to how it’s typically depicted on the silver screen. You can enjoy this town without partying in nightclubs or being intoxicated, but there’s no harm in responsibly opting for that route either. Don’t let Vegas’ wild reputation scare you away, dear bookworms.
If you're feeling restless, have an interesting book, and some spare time, there are many spaces where you can binge in your summer reading. From a cozy coffee shop in a local bookstore to a stunning state park, these are five of the best places in town to read in a cooler atmosphere.
The Writer’s Block
519 S 6th St Ste 100, Las Vegas, NV 89101
The Writer’s Block is a one-stop shop for book lovers, writers, and artists, offering local literature, stationary items, and other bookish goodies. While browsing the indie bookshop, it’s easy to get sucked into a bibliophile time-warp. The independent bookseller’s offerings include a faux bird sanctuary, an adorable pet rabbit dubbed “The Baron,” and cardboard cutouts of renowned wordsmiths around every corner.
After exploring their comprehensive collection, quench your desert tongue by ordering a refreshing sip at their coffee shop. Sip on your artisan coffee by the window as you peruse the new book you acquired from the mellow clerk working out of a life-size birdcage. Generally, when there isn’t an event taking place, The Writer’s Block exudes a calm atmosphere fit for any bohemian seeking a comfortable spot to read as they retreat from the hissing heat.
Public Libraries
Multiple Locations
Readers on a budget won’t have to charge their credit card to access the public library. No cover fees here. With multiple locations around town, chances are you will easily find a library in your area. Nothing beats free, especially when it’s an indoor air-conditioned space with ample furnishings that enforces a peaceful environment.
Since the library is the mother of reading rooms, it’s unlikely to be crowded or noisy like other local haunts. If you have kids, this can be an ideal option because the library provides many family-friendly activities to keep them occupied while you immerse yourself in a thrilling novel or the second installment of a steamy romantasy series.
Blue Ox Tavern
5825 W Sahara Ave Ste A, Las Vegas, NV 89146
The Blue Ox Tavern is a Minnesota-themed bar and casual eatery with a pool table, darts, and bar-top slot machines. The food strikes the perfect balance of being flavorsome and familiar. Compared to bustling bars on the Strip, this unassuming sports bar is a laid-back and spacious scene. The servers are attentive, always keeping my glass of ginger ale full, and helpful with anything I need.
Go on a weekday in the evening when business is slow because the pub is nearly vacant. This is one of the real hidden gems in Vegas that no one mentions on social media, but I appreciate the low-key status. It’s one of the best spots to grab a drink, relax, and get lost in a good story. After my experiences here, I can vouch for its pleasant ambiance, friendly staff and spacious layout.
The Boulevard Pool
Boulevard Tower, 3708 Las Vegas Blvd S Level 4, Las Vegas, NV 89109
Inside the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, the Boulevard Pool serves sweet sips, tasty snacks, and sunny escapades. Rent a cabana or daybed where you can soak in sun rays while poring over a compelling book. Sunbathing with a paperback by a resort oasis is the closest you’ll get to enjoying a Vegas beach read. Unless you really want to, I wouldn’t advise day-tripping to Lake Mead because of the increased humidity and hungry mosquitoes.
If you are a people person, after you finish reading your book, stick around for a Dive In movie, which is when the pool’s marquee transforms into an outdoor cinema. Nosh on movie-themed treats and mixed drinks while watching a cheesy flick. Locals, military members, first responders and hotel guests get a discount. Even if none of those descriptors apply to you, admission still only costs $15 per person, which is quite reasonable, given that it’s on the Strip.
Mt. Charleston
2525 Kyle Canyon Road Las Vegas, NV 89124
It is about 20 degrees cooler on Mt. Charleston than it is in Las Vegas. The breezy trails, shady spots and picnic area are ideal for readers who prefer an outdoor reading session. This peaceful state park may ramp up during summer because most people come here to escape the city’s heatwave. Pack a picnic, find a shaded area, and sprawl out on a blanket as you take your latest literary adventure.
Besides the typical noises you hear while trekking a trail, Mt. Charleston is usually a quiet place. Sometimes it is busier during the holiday weekends, so it’s smart to think ahead. It’s unlikely that anyone or anything will disrupt your reading. If you are a Hobbit at heart, chances are the scenic views, woodland creatures, and earthy aromas on this “sky island” will enamor you. Don’t forget to bring a second breakfast!
